Skyrim on Switch: the game crashes when using this popular feature

  • A new version of Skyrim has been released on Nintendo Switch, but some players are not happy.
  • The much requested survival mode causes the game to crash when a certain state is reached.
  • Gamers should think carefully before purchasing this latest Switch port of the game.

Several users on social media are reporting that the latest Nintendo Switch port of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – The Anniversary Edition – is causing a game crash state when players use the Survival Mode feature and they receive a “You you’re frozen”.

Skyrim Switch players were surprised when the game’s Anniversary Edition was released on console in the last days of September 2022.

This Complete Edition of the 11-year-old video game includes massive amounts of additional content, including nearly 80 new player-created items from publisher Bethesda’s Creation Club, as well as new quests, areas, dungeons, monsters and characters.

More importantly for many Switch players, the Anniversary Edition comes with new game modes like the highly anticipated Survival Mode. Switch players were able to either upgrade their base editions of the game to the Anniversary Edition for $19.99 (~R350) or purchase the new edition for the premium price of $69.99 (~R1,242) on the NintendoStore.

Survival Mode is a hardcore RPG-focused feature that adds real-world stats like Thirst, Fatigue, and Hunger to the game.

It also makes traveling to the freezing regions of Skyrim more inhospitable where being in a blizzard will take a toll on your character’s health. Players need to think strategically about their gear and items when embarking on the simplest of quests.

Switch Skyrim gamers have been asking for the feature to be added for many years now and many have reacted to the news with enthusiasm.

However, when players use the mode on Switch and their character’s temperature drops below 50%, their games crash. It’s not yet clear why this bug occurs, but Skyrim doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to game-breaking issues. It seems that this latest version of Switch is not excluded from it.

The latest Skyrim port on the Switch is a bug-riddled mess

GameRant is warning players to purchase this latest edition of the Switch port of Skyrim due to other notable performance flaws, including “terrible” FPS drops as seen in the images below:

Many players claim that the previous edition of the game on Switch runs “very well” and these new performance issues are a product of the recent update. It looks like the community has taken up arms over the buggy version and its $69.99 (~R1,242) price tag.

Hopefully Bethesda can fix these issues soon, but players are advised not to hold their breath and hold their wallets instead.
