It was a relatively quiet month for the Nintendo Switch in February, although we certainly have a lot to look forward to this year with the recent announcement of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Things pick up a bit more this month with some very exciting exclusives.
Headlining the lineup of new Nintendo Switch game releases in March is Triangle Strategy, a game I’ve been looking forward to since it was first announced a year ago. Developed in collaboration between Square Enix and Artdink with Square Enix producer Tomoya Asano (Bravely Default, Octopath Graveler) spearheading the project. Unlike those critically acclaimed games, Triangle Strategy is a tactical RPG with a mature story focused on conflict in the fictional continent of Norzelia.
From Vandal Hearts to Final Fantasy Tactics to XCOM, I’ve been a lifelong fan of tactics games and it seems like Triangle Strategy fits that gameplay perfectly. What’s especially cool about this game are the decisions and choices you make throughout the story that will directly affect the battle as they will determine which characters support or oppose your cause.
Chocobo GP is a kart racing game derived from the beloved Final Fantasy franchise. It is a sequel to the 1999 PlayStation game Chocobo Racing and follows various characters entering a racing tournament with a “one wish for whatever their heart desires” prize. The characters and courses in Chocobo GP are drawn from various Final Fantasy games, so there are sure to be plenty of fun Easter eggs.
While there’s plenty more to look forward to for Nintendo Switch in March, the third big game I’m looking forward to is HAL Laboratory’s Kirby and the Forgotten Land. This is the 17th main installment in the Kirby series, but the first 3D mainline game in the series, so it will be interesting to see how it plays out. The trailers have looked impressive so far.
